Project Associate

Rachel Helferd serves as Project Associate at Somerset, assisting the Asset Management and Resident Services teams. She also works on Somerset’s social media presence and conducts research on current and prospective projects in the Somerset pipeline.

Prior to joining Somerset, Ms. Helferd worked in homeless services throughout the Fairfax County region of Northern Virginia, starting in 2014. She was the Housing Locator for families in transitional housing with Homestretch Inc. in Falls Church, VA and also worked for Fairfax County’s Office to Prevent and End Homelessness where she supported a continuum-wide effort to recruit landlords and support staff in helping people experiencing homelessness secure safe, stable and affordable housing. Most recently, Ms. Helferd was the Intake Coordinator with Shelters to Shutters, a national nonprofit organization aimed at connecting the multifamily real estate industry with a sustainable talent pool while helping those experiencing situational homelessness access employment and housing opportunities.

Ms. Helferd has completed Neighborworks America’s professional certificate program in the Foundations of Affordable Housing and has a Bachelor of Arts in Global Affairs from George Mason University.
