James Ruffing

Partner and Managing Director

James Ruffing serves as Managing Director. As Managing Director, Mr. Ruffing oversees Somerset’s operations and assets, financial management, underwriting, and new acquisitions. Mr. Ruffing has over 20 years of experience in the real estate industry, primarily in the affordable housing sector. He brings extensive knowledge and expertise in affordable housing finance, acquisition, disposition, asset management, and underwriting.

Prior to joining Somerset in 2010, Mr. Ruffing worked for Buchanan Street Partners in San Francisco as an Assistant Vice President on the Investment Management Team responsible for the acquisition and asset management of equity investments. Prior to Buchanan Street Partners, Mr. Ruffing worked for AIMCO Capital as a Director of Asset Management and Dispositions for AIMCO’s affordable housing portfolio.

Mr. Ruffing has a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University and a Master’s Degree from Johns Hopkins University in Institutional Real Estate Investment.
