Employment and Job Skills

Resident Resource Coordinators work closely with residents interested in entering the workforce, gaining better employment, and furthering their education. This includes one-on-one work creating resumes, assisting with job applications, and assisting young people with finding employment opportunities or internships. Our programs include:

Culinary Job Training at DC Central Kitchen

Culinary Job Training at DC Central Kitchen provides culinary arts education, career readiness training, and real-world internships for adults who have experienced barriers to employment. Graduates work across Washington, DC’s thriving culinary industry, including top restaurants, large hotels, corporate cafeterias, local artisans, hospitals, schools, and universities.

DC Summer Youth Employment Program

The DC Summer Youth Employment Program provides District youth ages 14 to 24 with enriching and constructive summer work experiences through subsidized placements in the private and government sectors. Resident Resource Coordinators work with qualified youth at their properties to assist with the application process and ensure placements. The properties also serve as employer sites and host teens to work onsite in summer camp.

Workforce on Wheels

The DC Department of Employment Workforce on Wheels (WOW) team is a cutting-edge mobile service operation developed to address the needs of District’s youth and residents in the communities where they live. The mobile unit, a Winnebago, provides American Job Center resources and services to residents in front of or in parking lots of Somerset properties. Services include resume and cover letter review, tips for effective job searching, interview coaching, job leads assistance, prescreening and hiring events for employers, tools for employment success, and occupational skills trainings for DC residents.
