The Jordan
303 McMechen Street, Baltimore, MD 21217
thejordanlife.comSomerset Eutaw Place Partners in partnership with the non-profit Memorial Apartments Corporation (MAC), has completed the construction of The Jordan Apartments in Baltimore, a new 62 unit market-rate apartment building with a neighborhood gastro pub, on the ground floor. The Jordan represents the second phase of redevelopment of the original 3.6 acre site of Memorial Apartments located in the Bolton Hill neighborhood of Baltimore. The original site was subdivided to provide, in the first phase, for the $26 million renovation and preservation of 266 affordable units at Memorial Apartments — now renamed Linden Park Apartments — and to build new market rate apartments to create a new mixed income community. The award winning Linden Park Apartments provides for affordable senior living in a state-of-the-art building with a wealth of amenities and services.
The Jordan Apartments has a fitness center, a community space with a full kitchen and a roof top terrace, bike storage, a dog park, and gardens. A new gastro pub called the Tilted Row, operated by the owners of Cafe Fili in Mount Vernon, is on the ground floor. The building is within walking distance of Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), University of Baltimore (UB), University of Maryland mid-town campus and State Center and has an easy access to bus lines and the metro. The building is certified at the National Green Building Standards and Energy Star Homes. The modern architecture fits the scale and character of the surrounding historic neighborhood.
Completed in the Summer of 2019, the redevelopment of the site as a mixed-use, mixed-income community fulfills the neighborhood vision established in the HUD Choice Neighborhood Plan and fills in a “missing tooth” of the urban fabric on Eutaw Place and McMechen Streets. The Jordan is catalyzing a revitalization of the Eutaw Place corridor, tying Bolton Hill and neighborhoods west of Eutaw Place together into a vibrant mixed income neighborhood, in a transit-oriented location. The development represents the re-establishment of this important intersection by replacing what was a run-down surface parking lot with a beautifully designed apartment building. With MICA and UB in the neighborhood and easy access to downtown, the Jordan is an ideal location for students, administrators, young professionals, and empty nesters.
Next door to the Jordan along Eutaw Place, Somerset Development Company and MAC have partnered again to purchase the Unity Hall with the intention of transforming it into a Community Arts, Education and Training Center to bring the surrounding neighborhoods on both sides of Eutaw Place together.
The development was financed with $11.7 million FHA insured first mortgage through Wells Fargo Bank’s lending division under HUD’s 221 (d) (4) program and $2.5 million of Developer’s equity.
