The Hammond at Greenmount Park Wins the 2025 MAHC Community Partnership Award

January 4, 2026

The Hammond at Greenmount Park was awarded the 2025 MAHC Community Partnership Award by the Maryland Affordable Housing Coalition. Located at 1100 Greenmount Avenue in Baltimore’s Johnston Square neighborhood, The Hammond is a 109-unit mixed-income development. As the cornerstone of the Johnston Square Vision Plan, the project replaces long-vacant parcels with new housing and amenities shaped directly by resident priorities. Using income averaging, the building introduces a mix of affordable and near-market units without displacing existing residents, while its prominent corner design establishes a new gateway into the community.

Major amenities reflect strong collaboration with neighborhood partners. The ground floor features a new 9,400-square-foot Enoch Pratt Free Library branch—the first new retail space on Greenmount Avenue in about 30 years—offering educational programs, free internet, and community resources. A semi-public reading patio will connect the library to a future public park, and a 2,500-square-foot community room, shared by residents and community organizations, will support programming from the library, the Women’s Housing Coalition, and the Rebuild Johnston Square Neighborhood Organization. Additional features such as high-end unit finishes, a rooftop terrace, and a dog-washing room help attract diverse households and support the neighborhood’s long-term growth.

The development team includes Somerset Development Company, New Community Partners, ReBUILD Metro, Harkins Builders, and Quinn Evans Architects, working in close partnership with the City of Baltimore and several community organizations. Their collective effort ensured that The Hammond was designed, financed, and programmed in direct response to community goals, resulting in a project that strengthens Johnston Square’s housing options, public amenities, and long-term vitality.
